Out of all your characters, which one is your favorite? Why? Or do you have many favorites?

I have many favorites.
Darius Laporte is one of my favorites probably because I've been working on his story for so long. I just feel like I know the guy. And I just want to give him a hug.
Niki Sokolof is in the same boat as Darius - I've "known" her forever. She actually is fairly similar to me in ways I couldn't have known when I created her. She's a bit more outspoken and aggressive than me. Well, a lot more aggressive. But some of the similarities such as extreme loyalty and gender confusion are some traits she shares with me.
Ruslan is becoming a fairly deep character. He was originally created as just a background character who occasionally bothered my main character, but he's getting a bigger role now, and he's got more of a personality. More importantly, he has motive for doing what he does, which was something he always lacked. I don't know if it'll even be mentioned in the story, but I like knowing that he's not just doing stuff because he's an asshole.
Jacob Barton is another one I like because he's got all these secret plans and he's manipulating everyone, but no one really knows. He also knows so many things. He's not omniscient or anything but he's got his ways of getting information. He doesn't let anyone know just how much he knows, and this allows him to basically control everything. Because he's also crazy smart.

I was just answering this question the other day. I actually struggle with this one. Once, I really loved my character named Christofer. In the newest version of the story he was in, his character doesn't actually exist. In the old version, he was a murderer. I also really do like Cole, from my newest story Epitome of an Underdog. He is a pretty intense and real character, and although I do struggle to write him sometimes, I still really enjoy it. I also love James. He was a side character, originally just a kidnapper. But in the newest version Red Rose, he plays a bigger role. He also has a much more developed and all around better personality. And a sick back story. Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll get to write about it.

I hate it when you know all the back story of a character but there's never a chance to tell it. I have so many characters like that. Well, maybe like four or five. For some of my characters that I really like, I've thought about writing separate stories just about them.

For some of my characters that I really like, I've thought about writing separate stories just about them. Oh my gosh I completely relate! I ave the coolest backstories for some characters, but unfortunately readers might not ever get to see them. Well, maybe. But it would be working away from the plot. haha I think this might be partially why some writers create sequels. You can work in those characters we didn't see much of, and expand on those lovely backstories they've created.

I know! In one series, I'm going to have a lot of books. The main series was originally going to be a trilogy, and now it's going to be a series of four books. A quadrology? Tetrology? I get my Greek and Latin mixed up. But whatever. Four books in the main series. And then I think I'll have a bunch of other books set in the same universe. Some will feature the main characters from the main series as well as some of the other characters, but I also think I want to write some more that focus more on the secondary characters. Ruslan could have a story about how he came to work for the villain, as well as a story about what he does after the main series and is free. The way he is in the main series, I almost think readers might think I just made his personality all over the place out of laziness, but really, there is a reason that he is the way he is. There's a lot going on the background. On a similar note, Erik also could have a story. But I think it would have a lot of overlap with Ruslan's story unless I tell the story between him and Jasmine, and if I go that route, I'd rather tell it from Jasmine's POV since she's more interesting. This leaves Erik as a perpetual secondary character though. Justice really needs a story too. I'm going to call it "All the World Ablaze." I originally wanted one of the main series to be called that, but I'd need obnoxious titles to do that. I would have had to call the first one "Redemption: Hunting Truth" and then the third would have been "Revelation: All the World Ablaze." But I like the title for Justice's story anyway given that he's pyrokinetic. He also has schizophrenia, so he probably thinks he will burn the entire world sometime. Rheingold could also have his own story because the reader doesn't really get to know his motivation. He tells one of the other characters towards the end of the series, but it feels insufficient. I don't think it makes him look like any less of a dickwad. I mean, he is a dickwad, but he's got a reason for being the way he is. I think it'd be nice to see just why the villain is doing what he's doing. I could go on listing characters that I want to write extra stories for all day long. And I'm sure I'll write them and come up with even more stories to write.

I have been working on that story for ten years, so that's why I've got so many developed characters. Pretty much anytime I come across some idea that I want to incorporate, it gets worked into the background of a character. And that's been going on for ten years. I once watched a TED talk by a lawyer who has schizophrenia, and that's what made me give Justice schizophrenia, and it also influenced Ruslan's back story too. I've actually been watching some old TV shows and I've actually realized a bunch of shows I watched in middle school really influenced some of my characters.
